Ann Marie Nelson, 79, of Rockford, died at 8:05 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2012, in Alden Care Center, Barrington, Ill. Born April 19, 1932, in Seglora, Sweden; the daughter of Evert V. and Helfrid (Hansson) Persson. She married Kenneth Alfred Nelson Dec. 23, 1950, Rockford. He predeceased her April 6, 1986. Member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed being a part of Mary Circle. Ann was a cook at Tom Thumb Nursery and worked in the deli at Hilander, retiring in 2000. She was a volunteer at the Rockford Rescue Mission Mart, and she enjoyed cooking, baking, attending antique shows and flea markets, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Pam (Myron) Welsh and Brad (Barb) Nelson, both of Rockford; son-in-law, Bob Hendershot of Rockford; grandchildren, Sean (Kim) Welsh, Sara (Rick) Peppers, Erik and Kara Hendershot, and Ashley and Sydney Nelson, all of Rockford; great-grandchildren, Riley and Brady Welsh, and Karma Peppers; sister-in-law, Kerstin Steele of Rockford; nieces, Britt, Karin, Linda, and Kim; nephew, John; and many family members in Sweden. Predeceased by her daughter, Nan Hendershot in 1999; brother- and sister-in-law, Roy and Gerd Nelson; and parents, sister and brother in Sweden.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with Rev. Bill Dahlberg officiating. Visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in the funeral home. Private family burial in Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rockford Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 1958, Rockford, IL 61110-0458.

|I went to Tom Thumb and spent a lot of time as a little girl being enthralled with what Ann did in the kitchen. She was such a sweet lady. I last saw her a few years ago and was so happy to chat with her. She was still the sweet lady I remember from 35you years ago.|
