Roy Gordon “Gordy” Johnson, 84, of Rockford, died Tuesday, June 19 in his residence.  Born April 16, 1928 in Rockford, the son of Roy W. & Mary (Ellis) Johnson.  He married Marian Eade on September 13, 1949 at The Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA ; she predeceased him January 13, 1985.   Roy attended Rockford schools. He was a “class A” tool & die maker at National Lock, retiring in 1983 after 33 years.
Gordy enjoyed the outdoors while fishing, camping, and hunting. He considered the home he built “a piece of heaven” for 47 years; especially looking out the windows, watching all the “critters” (birds, squirrels, ducks, geese, wild turkeys and so many more). They would always bring a smile to his face. How comical God’s creatures can be, particularly the babies!
He is survived by nephew, Roy (Barbara) Larson of Cherry Valley; niece, Susan (David) Hoffman of Rockford; a grandniece, great grandniece and great grandnephew.  Gordy knew how blessed he was to have such fantastic neighbors Bill (Rosie) Born, Chuck (Margaret) Moore, Phil (Dee Dee) Cancelose; and great friends with the Dorothy Brown family.  Predeceased by parents; wife; and sister, Dorothy M. Larson.  Special thanks to Dr. Atef Tawfik; his nurse, Barbara; heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional nurses from OSF Hospice:  Lori, Julie, Sue and Michelle; and Karen and Ed from Social Services.  Gordy especially valued the care given to him by Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (L.S.S. I.), Intouch Home Care workers Kayla and Theresa.  May God bless all of you for your loving care, service, and friendship to Gordy!  He knew he was “a lucky guy” because of YOU!
Because his wife, Marian, was truly the “love of his life,” Gordy constantly looked forward to being re-united with her. And now they are together…forever. Blissfully happy…once again!
Funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave, with Rev. Jay Quinn of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.  Visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.  in Fred C. Olson chapel.  Private family burial in Oak Knoll Memorial Park Cemetery, Sterling, IL.  Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice, 9951 Rock Cut Crossing, Loves Park, IL 61111; and L.S.S.I., c/o Wendy Adams, 6401 Newburg Rd.,  Rockford, IL  61108.

My prayers are with the friends and family of Gordy, I have met of few of the friend many years ago when I visited him from Texas – he was the best person I had ever met.
Never forget when he took me boating and we had to out run bees - I was so scared – we made it back safe and sound.
He always had a big smile on his face when he was out in the boat fishing.
Gordy has always been in heart and thought over years and I will miss him dearly.
