Obituary

Mitchel "Mitch" H. Viren,37, of Loves Park, passed away on August 22, 2017. He was born on February 15, 1980 in Rockford, IL, the son of Anthony and Virginia (Zinke) Viren. Mitch graduated from Harlem High School in 1998 and in 2002 he received his BS degree in Business Administration from Northern Illinois University. He met his future wife, Holly L. Swanson, in grade school and were best friends from that point on. They were married on October 20, 2007, at Holy Family Catholic Church and later had their son, Harrison.
Mitch was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church. He loved photography, riding his bike, sampling craft beer, and spending time with friends and family. He enjoyed being a husband and a father and loved playing with his son. He was also someone that everyone could count on when they needed help; he was usually the first person there to lend a hand. He loved a good joke and was quite the prankster. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago White Sox and the Green Bay Packers and loved the game of golf. When diagnosed with AML in 2014, he maintained his extremely positive outlook on life, and handled each challenge that arose with an amazing outlook and never let it get him down. He attributed his positivity to his faith and he always had a smile on his face. In 2016 he was selected as the Honored Hero for Rockford's "Light the Night Walk" for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and took great pride in being selected.
Mitch is survived by his wife, Holly; son, Harrison; parents, Anthony and Virginia; brother, Shannon; sister, Colleen (Andy) Wade; nieces, Lily, Ellie, and Ruby Wade; in-laws Patricia and Robert Shaw, Roy and Susan Swanson, Cassie (Kyler) Hartje, and Kenny Swanson; and his faithful, four-legged, furry friend, Buster. Predeceased by his brother, Richard, grandparents, aunts, and a cousin. The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to Dr. Mark Juckett and the fantastic medical staff at the University of Wisconsin Hospital for taking such great care of Mitch, the Infusion Center at Swedish American Regional Cancer Center, and Agrace Hospice, specifically Erika and Cain, as well as to Mitch's extended family and close friends for your friendship and support during this fight - no one fights alone and Mitch definitely had an army of support!
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on August 26, 2017 at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, IL with Reverend Keith Romke officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave., Rockford, IL. and also on August 26th at church from 12:00 to 12:45 prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family
