Obituary

Sherman Francis "Mac Spotted Horse" MacVenn, 69, of Rockford, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017. He was born on July 25, 1948, the son of Francis S. and Mary Jo (Kennedy) MacVenn. Sherman married Juanita Smith in 1966. They were separated for 30 years before they married again in 2003 by Native American Lakota Pipe and then again married in 2004. He enjoyed reading a lot, was a Cub Scout Leader and loved telling children stories. Sherman owned the "Cherokee Nation" store, helped create a Native American Awareness Committee in 1995, and was part of the cleanup initiative for Beattie Park's "Honor the Mounds" celebration. Mac Spotted Horse was a member of Haudenosaunee tribe.

Survived by his wife, Juanita; birthdaughters, Sarah MacVenn Speed and Elizabeth MacVenn; many additional adopted children; four step children; sixty grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Willa MacVenn; and brother, Harry MacVenn. Predeceased by his parents; and daughter, Laura.

Private Family Services will be held.
