Lorena Butts, 84, died Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in Rochelle Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center. She was born on September 10, 1931 in Russellville, Kentucky to Timothy and Ina (Morgan) Rains. Even though she lived the majority of her life in Illinois, her Kentucky roots have always been firmly planted in her.
Lorena met her husband, Charles Butts, on a blind date and they married on August 6, 1954. Together they made their home in Sycamore where they had two children, as well as cared for Charles daughter, Sandra. Lorena ran a successful beauty salon for decades, as well as sold real estate. She enjoyed gardening, biblical studies, politics, fashion and enjoying a good cup of coffee with family and friends. She and Charles were well known for their Chicago Bears parties and Christmas eve open houses.
She is survived by her children, David Charles (Mary) Butts, Susan (Neil) Wallner of Elburn,and Sandra (John) Davis of DeKalb; grandchildren, Gary (Kim) Mitchell, Travaress Mitchell, Ayana Mitchell-Butts, Kelly Wallner, Brett Wallner, and Amanda (Kevin) Zirzow; several great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Randy Davis; sister, Josephine Ramsey; and brothers, Raymond, Timothy Jr., and Glenn Rains.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, December 21, 2015 in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Quiram Sycamore Chapel, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore with Pastor Leonardo Oliveira officiating. The visitation will be from 11 AM - 1 PM on Monday, prior to the service. Interment will be at Genoa Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
