Helen Louise Ruud, 89, of Sycamore died Friday December 25, 2015 at Oakcrest Retirement Home. She was born on March 7, 1926 to the late Gail and Laurel(Townsend) Moyers in Sycamore, IL. Helen graduated in the class of 1943 from Sycamore High School. She attended The University of Illinois and earned a degree in Dietetics. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Helen utilized her dietetics degree in many careers before retiring.

Helen married the late Donald E. Ruud in 1964 and moved to Melrose Park, IL.

She returned to Sycamore in 1983 were she owned and oversaw the operations of her hog and grain farm.

Helen was a member of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau, Daughters of the American Revolution John Starks chapter, volunteer at Oakcrest and the Salvation Army food pantry. She was a nominee for the Athena Award for her excellence in service to the community.

Mayfield Church was dear to Helen's heart, she served selflessly as a member of the church in any aspect that was needed. She was a long serving member on the Women's Fellowship Committee. She faithfully baked delicious baked goods for Mayfield's pancake breakfasts and chicken dinners.

She enjoyed supporting many groups, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.

Helen is survived by her only son, David (Kathy) Ruud of Sycamore; grandchildren D. Erik, Victoria, and Preston Ruud; sister, Norma Andres, niece Paula (Beatty) McCaleb, Russ (Judy) Andres, Steve Andres, and several nieces and nephews. Helen is predeceased by her parents Gail and Laurel Moyers and sister Nancy Valle.

The visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m. at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Quiram Chapel in Sycamore. Funeral services will be at Mayfield Church in Sycamore on December 31, 2015 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Mayfield Cemetery. A luncheon will be served immediately after the graveside service.

The family wishes to thank Oakcrest for the loving and kind care given to Helen over the years.

    As a long time friend of Helen I just wanted to pass along sincere condolensces on her passing. At 100 yrs old, I was not able to come to visitation or go to the funeral, but she and her family was on my mind and in my my prayers. Be strong and God Bless. Delia Remala

    Dave, I did not know your mother well, but I know you. And just knowing what a wonderful person, great father, husband, and friend your are, would be enough to know what a outstanding person and mother Helen Ruud was in life.
