Boyd W. Loptien, 87, of Genoa died Friday, December 25, 2015 at Pine Acres Rehab and Living Center in DeKalb. He was born July 5, 1928 in Elgin the son of Lawrence W. and Hattie Alvina (Hackman) Loptien. He married Mary Parker on January 8, 1949 in Genoa. Boyed farmed for seven years when he decided to do something different. He went into the printing business which he stated in the utility room of the family home. He also got his pilot's license and enjoyed flying airplanes and was a member of the Genoa Masonic Lodge, Rockford Tebala Shrine, and the Sycamore Elks Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Genoa; nephew, Don (Pat) Anderson of Genoa; nieces, Kay Anderson of Cortland, Patti Kannenberg of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, along with other nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law, Jane Brown of Genoa, Virginia Fowler of DeKalb, Marietta Parker of Elburn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Lawrence Loptien, Jr., Edna Plautz, Marjorie Anderson, and Viola Loptien; niece, Vicki Brennerman.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Cooper-Quiram Chapel, 202 E. Main St., Genoa, IL 60135. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Interment will be in Genoa Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
