Obituary

Karen A. Nelson, 70, of Rockford, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017. She was born on January 3, 1947, in Westin, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Kaare and Muriel (Jones) Nevdal. Karen moved to Rockford with her parents in 1948 and became an American citizen in 1954. She was a graduate of Guilford High School, class of 1965. After graduation she attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Golden Valley, MN. Karen married Lance M. Nelson on October 26, 1970. She was employed at Goodwill and United Cerebral Palsy. Karen was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church since 1948. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and working in the yard.
Survived by her husband, Lance; son, Eric (Mary Smith) Nelson of Weatherly, PA; five grandsons, Nathan, Brandon, Graham, Benjamin, and Jude Nelson; father, Kaare Nevdal of Rockford; brother, Mark (Sue) Nevdal of Davis, IL; sister, Sandra (Douglas) Rogers of Atlanta, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her mother.
Funeral Services to be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2017 in Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford, with Reverend Jeff Fricke officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. in the chapel prior to the service. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
